Role Overview
The Finance Officer will manage day-to-day financial operations within a small, collaborative team, reporting to the Finance Director. This part-time role is ideal for an experienced professional who values structure and autonomy, providing essential support to ensure accurate financial management and compliance, with potential to cover senior finance responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities

Manage daily accounting processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities

Prepare monthly account closures, reconciliations, and supporting analyses

Assist in producing monthly management accounts and statutory financial statements compliant with UK GAAP

Support budget holders in monitoring and tracking budget performance

Raise sales invoices, process purchase invoices, and resolve supplier queries

Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns ensuring regulatory compliance

Maintain internal control procedures and ensure adherence to company policies

Assist in annual budgeting, re-forecasting, and financial planning alongside senior finance staff

Prepare for audits and liaise with auditors as required

Support tax compliance activities in coordination with external advisers

Identify and implement process improvements in finance operations and reporting

Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support business needs

Collaborate effectively with back-office colleagues on various tasks and projects

Demonstrate flexibility by assuming additional responsibilities or covering for senior staff during absences
Requirements
Essential:
-
CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualified

Minimum five years’ experience in accounting practice or business analyst-related roles

Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks autonomously

Strong skills in reviewing, interpreting, and communicating financial information to stakeholders

Experience with UK payroll processing

Proficiency in Excel and MS Office applications for data analysis and reporting

Excellent organisational skills with keen attention to detail

High level of verbal communication and presentation skills in English
Desirable:

Exposure to multi-jurisdictional or international payroll processes

Experience working independently in a senior finance capacity, including covering FD or CFO duties
Additional Information
The role is based in the UK office located in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, within a small, supportive finance team. Salary & Working Hours

£20,000 – £22,000pa based on 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with consistent weekly hours and some flexibility on scheduling
